While the current pandemic is certainly unprecedented, its impact has only reinforced a lot of the changes we were already seeing. With COVID-19 cases that continue to rise, so have the number of companies asking their employees to work from home. Whether you’re a first-time employee struggling to be as productive from your couch as you are from your office station, or a manager looking for ways to keep your newly remote team engaged, here are some tips to keep you motivated while working remotely from home:
1. Transform any space to a make-shift office
One of the biggest challenges when it comes to working remotely is keeping your work and home lives separate. With the right tools and materials, you can explore different ways how you can transform any space to your own make-shift office, to easily help get work done.
2. Eliminate distractions
Distraction is one of the biggest challenges for people who work from home. When you really need to concentrate, turn your attention only toward your work. Organize your workstation and eliminate distractions with tools and supplies available within reach. This could include your computer, a printer, video conferencing equipment, paper, pens, and more.
3. Find a comfortable spot to work
Since a comfortable seat on the sofa may not be able to provide the same type of motivation an employee gets from a suit and an office chair, try to make your workspace comfortable with a chair you can sit in for eight hours a day and a few decorations. Find an area with good natural lighting if possible.
4. Consider adding decorations
Try decorating your space by including any career achievements and awards, your educational diplomas and or certificates, and branding from the company where you work. The more your room feels like an office, the easier it will be to stay motivated in the workplace.
5. Be Resourceful
Purge your personal things from bedroom to kitchen to bathroom and see what things you can use as an organizer and the like! You’ll be surprised with the old things that you had and didn’t expect to bring a new spark in you.
When you’re working from home without a watchful eye of a manager or a boss, it can be difficult to motivate yourself to get down to business. However, by following these tips, it can not only help you be motivated, as well as help feel your best while working remotely from home.
